Hi everyone, I have concentrated my efforts on good domain names ending in .com, .net and have been considering registering in other tlds like .eu, .in, .ca, .asia . Does anyone have experience with these and are they being used like .com, and .net? I would like to build a worldwide brand but dont want to waste my money. If anyone has any input or experience please let me know. Thanks!

  • J.Todd,
I know content is king. I didn't give much thought to the design of a site with a local tld. This would be something important to a local user that I probably would have overlooked. I have learned many things from your videos and the apcw website. Thanks!
  • There are two thoughts on this subject. For many years search engines placed more value on the domain name of a website which contained key words. Even dashes would help with SEO if the keywords were separated out. But over the past several years these things don't matter as much... content is king.

I don't really think that the extension on the domain name is as important to your SEO efforts as what you put on the page. What the extension may be is more of a psychological thing for your visitors. For example, in the US people seem to place a lot of value on .com sites, even though most have no idea what "com" stands for or why it's important... they just hear "dot com" said so much it has value.

However, in other parts of the world, having a local extension on your name may be helpful. People in those regions may actually trust domains with a "local" extension more than a "dot com". However, if you try this approach, make damn sure you have a professional build your sites who is fluent in the language, the customs, and even down to the slang and dialect... or you will alienate your visitors and it won't matter.

    Hope this helps!
